THE COASTS ARE THE TOAST
Three weeks into the season, and it's the non-traditional hockey markets that are leading the pack in both the East and West. The Anaheim Ducks have seemed to regain their form of past, as they sit atop the West with a 10-3 record. They have been led by their high-octane offense, which includes the likes of Henrik Sedin and Ilya Kovalchuk. In the East, the Florida Panthers have finally seemed to get over the hump, and have a 10-2 record. They are doing it with defense and top off-season acquisition, Henrik Lundqvist. The Tampa Bay Lightning also are continuing their regular season dominance, as they also have 20 points, with a 9-1-1-1 record. 2011/12 CDNHL SEASON STARTS THIS SUNDAY!
Sunday, October 23 marks day 1 of the CDNHL schedule, as the reigning champions, the Calgary Flames, look to defend the Cup in 2011/2012. 2011/12 CDNHL PREVIEW - WESTERN CONFERENCE - Johan Tarnstedt 2011/12 CDNHL PREVIEW - EASTERN CONFERENCE - Johan Tarnstedt LIGHTNING QUICK
The Chicago Blackhawks showed their faith in Corey Crawford, by allowing Jonathan Quick to go to Tampa Bay and accepting compensation from the Lightning (2 firsts, a second and a third rounder) for the offer sheet. NUGENT-HOPKINS A LEAF
The top 3 picks in the CDNHL entry draft were Ryan Nugent-Hoplins (Toronto), Adam Larsson (NY Rangers) and Gabriel Landeskog (Dallas)

TEAM THORNTON PREVAILS OVER TEAM O.V.
All-Star weekend is over, and Team Thornton outlasted Team Ovechkin 7-6 in a high scoring affair. Game MVP Tomas Plekanec had 2 goals and an assist, as Team Thornton held off a late Team Ovehkin charge. Team Thornton also edged Team Ovechkin in the Skills Competition, 7-5. Mike Green wowed the North Carolina crowd with a shot recorded at 104.7 MPH. Eric Staal and Alex Ovechkin tied for the accuracy shooting win, both hitting all 4 targets in only 4 shots. The fastest skater was St. Louis Blues winger Kristian Huselius.
HAWKS ON A ROLL
The Chicago Blackhawks are next on the CDNHL hit list, as they notched their 10th consecutive victory on Wednesday. The Atlanta Thrashers are next, and look to break the streak. FLYING HIGH
The Philadelphia Flyers have extended their incredible winning streak to 11 games. The CDNHL bounty is now on, and the Boston Bruins were the victims on Sunday night. BRUINS WIN BATTLE OF THE Bs
Mason Raymond and Keith Tkachuk each scored 2 goals as the Boston Bruins easily handled their division rival Buffalo Sabres 5-2. Boston has pulled within 2 points of the Sabres. LIGHTNING SMASH SHARKS
The Tampa Bay Lightning thrashed the San Jose Sharks on Thursday 11-0. The Lightning were led by Alex Steen and Tim Connolly, who each amassed 5 points. OPENING DAY...A LITTLE BIT FOR EVERYONE
Opening day in the CDNHL finally came, and there was a little bit of everything. There was the expected, such as the 'Hawks beating the Avs and the Flames tripling the 'Canes. There was star-power, such as Sidney Crosby recording the season's first hat trick. There was a big-name injury, as Roberto Luongo will be gone for 1-2 weeks. And there was the surprising, such as Edmonton's Colton Orr contributing to the Oilers' win with a goal and an assist. EXHIBITION SEASON UNDERWAY
With training camp well underway, the CDNHL now begins a brief exhibition slate of games, played over 3 days. Each team is slated to play 8 games apiece. Many teams enter their games with some final roster decisions to be made, and the next 8 games will be make or break for some fringe players. |
